12 James Malcolm Moore, son of Knox Moore and Mary McColm was born on 14th January 1909 at Wallangarra, Queensland. He married Esme Eileen Merchant on 5 April 1930 at Tenterfield, NSW. James died on 15 April 1989 at Tenterfield, NSW.

13 Esme Eileen Merchant, daughter of Phillip Merchant and Rose Allsop, was born on 8 December 1910 at Tenterfield, NSW. She died on 29 December 1981 at Tenterfield, NSW.

My great grandfather

24 Knox Moore, was the eldest child of John Moore and Margaret Jane Henry. He was born at Ballycregagh, Antrim on the 28 December 1872. He married Mary (Polly) McColm on 17 January 1907. The marriage was egistered in Tenterfield buy was more than likely held on the NSW side of the border at Jennings. Knox and Mary had five children, Matthew, James, Knox, Rose and Jean. 


25 Mary (Polly) McColm, daughter of Michael (Malcolm) McColm and Jane Smith Fleming, was born on 17 January 1885 at Elbow Valley, Queensland. She died  on 23 May 1939 at Tenterfield, NSW.

Knox and Polly had 5 children
1.Matthew John 1907 - 1981
2. James Malcolm 1909 - 1989
3. Rosetta Jane Fleming 1910 - 1979
4. Knox 1913 - 1989
5. Jean Elizabeth 1915 - 1988


4. My great great grandfather

48 John Moore, son of John Moore and Elizabeth (Bessie) Glen, was born c1846 in Ireland. He married Margaret Jane (Maggie) Henry on 21 September 1871 at Ballymoney, Antrim, Ireland. John died on 2 September 1929 at Tenterfield, NSW.

49 Margaret Jane (Maggie) Henry, my great great grandmother, daughter of James Moore Henry and Rose Black Hannah, was born on 18 February 1850/51 in Ireland. She died on 1 August 1923 at Wallangarra, Queensland.

Caroline Chisholm

I am currently in England visiting my daughter who is working in London. Naturally I decided I would have to spend some time on genealogical pursuits. Caroline is known as the immigrant's friend. She was a well known social reformer of her day. Why is Caroline significant to me and my family? Family Homes - No 3 - Moolan Downs, Queensland

My previous Family Home post showed the childhood home of Catherine Ellen Dawson . After leaving Tasmania Catherine moved to Melbourne with her mother and siblings after the death of her father Dr William Lee Dawson. Catherine married Gustav Baumgarten in Melbourne on 30th November 1876. They lived at Pleasant Bank Vineyard at Barnawatha.  According to the Cyclopedia of Victoria they had 180 acres of vines, 465 acres of agricultural and grazing land and a further 300 acres under cultivation.   During 1908 the Baumgarten family moved from Barnawatha to Moolan Downs, near Meandarra west of Dalby. They left a thriving business with an established homestead and moved to western Queensland. One of their first tasks when they arrived was to build the dwelling shown below.
