The Tree of Me

Research can always be incorrect. I have previously written a post about Dashwood House at Newton Stewart but now need to write a followup as the house I thought was Dashwood isn't. I wanted to verify that my research (as it turns out an uneducated guess) was correct so I posted on the Facebook page of Newton and Minnigaff Memories.  You can see my post here.   Comments informed me that I was wrong. My earlier reasoning was incorrect and I didn't spend enough time in Newton Stewart to positively verify my work.  I was fortunate that a number of people replied to my post and one of them posted a photo of the Dashwood House for me. Dashwood House, Newton Stewart My 4G grandfather, James Milroy and his wife Elizabeth McGill lived at Dashwood House, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, Scotland from when they purchased it in 1879 until the death of Elizabeth in 1895. In July 2018, I drove through Newton Stewart and managed to find Dashwood House. I wish I had had more time to knock on the door of the business that occupies the building! A search in the British Newspapers Archive uncovered this advertisement in The Glasgow Herald,   about the sale of Dashwood House. (Monday 29 April 1895, p. 3) The solicitor W.M. Kelly - William Milroy Kelly - was the son of James and Elizabeth Milroy's daughter Elizabeth who had married Captain William Kelly, a Master Mariner. I am a subscriber to DNA painter , which I love. This morning I decided to check out my Tree Completeness and thought it a good idea to check out the statistics. Like thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people around the work, I have been playing with the new addition at MyHeritage  - My Heritage in Color. I want to share one of the photos I uploaded. It came from my mother-in-law's collection and I believe from her father's German side of the family. I feel that this photo was not taken in Australia but am prepared to be proved incorrect. Unknown gentleman from my image collection Some of the points of interest: the timber house has no eaves 2 bicycles beside the house wooden barrel on the left hand side of the path the brick? house in the background, appears to have some sort of carving on the second story above the door his cap may be an identifying feature he is smoking a pipe The building in the background makes me think this is not from the Armidale area.
