Dashwood House, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire

Dashwood House, Newton Stewart My 4G grandfather, James Milroy and his wife Elizabeth McGill lived at Dashwood House, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, Scotland from when they purchased it in 1879 until the death of Elizabeth in 1895. In July 2018, I drove through Newton Stewart and managed to find Dashwood House. I wish I had had more time to knock on the door of the business that occupies the building! A search in the British Newspapers Archive uncovered this advertisement in The Glasgow Herald,   about the sale of Dashwood House. (Monday 29 April 1895, p. 3) The solicitor W.M. Kelly - William Milroy Kelly - was the son of James and Elizabeth Milroy's daughter Elizabeth who had married Captain William Kelly, a Master Mariner. I hope the family received more than the upset price of £500 at the public roup (auction).
